About our choirs
The Musical Originals Singers are Jersey’s premier youth choir and are well known both in the Island and overseas for their beautiful ‘a capella’ sound and focus on contemporary classical works written especially for young people.
Conducted and trained by Imogen Nicholls, MBE, assisted by Jane Silvester, the Choir and Training Choir provide a rigorous choral education for girls and boys aged 7 to 17 alongside all the well-researched benefits that being a member of a choir provide. Choir members are offered opportunities to travel and compete on an international stage. Several former members are now making singing their career, but whether choir members choose a musical future or not they are encouraged to have a love of choral singing which will last a lifetime.
No strangers to international competitions, the Musical Originals Singers have achieved great success over the last twelve years beginning with their winning the Children’s Choir section at ‘Young Prague 2008’ with a Gold Award and most recently, taking on choirs in one of the most prestigious competitions in Europe: the Rimini International Choral Festival where they won both the Children’s Choirs and, against adult choirs from around the world, the Sacred Music competitions.

They have performed in the Symphony Hall, Birmingham, the Milennium Hall Cardiff, the Musikittaalo, Helsinki, the Galli Theatre Rimini, St Stephen’s Cathedral Prague, Fort Regent, Jersey and regularly at the Jersey Arts Centre and Opera House. They have performed for Royal visitors to the Island and shared platforms with Hayley Westenra, ‘Blake’ & Nerina Pallot. For over 15 years, the Musical Originals Singers have the honour to perform at the annual commemoration of the Island’s ‘Liberation Day’ at the invitation of the Bailiff.
The Choir’s success is testament to their determination to achieve the highest possible standards of music making. Their pursuit of excellence and choice of contemporary repertoire demands a high level of commitment from the girls & boys, who work hard both individually and as part of the team to achieve their success in the Musical Originals Singers.
But the rewards are high too. Being part of an internationally acclaimed team, representing their home island at the highest level and in regular demand for prestigious performances on-island, members develop life-skills of team work and communication along with the satisfaction of being part of such an elite group of musicians.
