Imogen Nicholls, L.R.A.M.
Imogen grew up in Jersey where she had her early singing lessons with Amy Luce MBE. Amy, and her brother, John Lobb OBE, were her teachers and mentors until she gained a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in 1975 as a singer and a flautist, studying first with Patricia Clark and later with Esther Salaman.
At the Academy, Imogen developed a love of contemporary music to add to her passion for opera and, following graduation, embarked on her career as a professional singer in Europe and the UK singing everything and anything from session work to opera and oratorio. As part of a small touring opera company, ‘Opera Venture’, she sang, variously, the roles of ‘Adele’ in Die Fledermaus, ‘Marenka’ (Bartered Bride), ‘Pamina’ (Die Zauberflote) ‘Frasquita’ (Carmen) and all the female roles in the Marriage of Figaro - although not in the same production! |
Despite a busy and fulfilling solo career, Imogen’s love of teaching has always underpinned her musical life and, returning to Jersey in 1989, she established Musical Originals to communicate her own love of classical singing to the thousands of children that have come through her School since then.
Imogen was awarded an MBE in 2019 for her services to singing in Jersey.
