Singing Classes
The core work of Musical Originals is done in classes. In each class we cover the fundamentals of singing: posture, breathing and healthy voice placement and we take care to ensure that these aspects of singing are covered in every lesson.
We work on aural ability, musicianship and sight-singing. Always age-appropriate, our repertoire is broadly classical and features works from the Baroque to the 21st Century. Songs are carefully chosen to ensure that students develop their vocal technique, their musicianship and their language skills. So as well as singing in English, students are encouraged from their earliest days at class to sing in Italian, German and French and to develop a love of the classical repertoire of these cultures. Our teachers are proficient in these languages and this helps to develop a love of the genre in young people.

Musical Originals has a vast library of vocal scores and songs and which gives students great scope to choose diverse and challenging material.
With only six students per class, every student gets individual attention. We encourage students to record their lessons thus enabling them to continue their work at home. As we do not audition any Musical Originals student, it is vital that every child has a sense of achievement through their singing whatever their natural ability. It is obvious that this has a ‘knock-on’ effect on their self esteem and, inevitably, their progress in everything else.

The Musical Originals philosophy of teaching singing in small groups has served students well over the 30 years of the Schools’ existence. Singing together not only develops the students as musicians but teaches them to listen, to share and to appreciate their, and others’, talent. Musical Originals students attend a wide range of Island schools and so their singing gives them an opportunity to build up friendships outside school.
