The Musical Originals Singers Training Choir
The Musical Originals Training Choir grew out of the desire of the younger members of Musical Originals to work on contemporary choral repertoire too. Aged 8 to 12 years, they made their debut at the 2009 Jersey Eisteddfod where they won two ‘Gold’ awards.
We also have a Minors choir, our youngest choir aged from 5 to 8 years. They distinguish themselves each year in the Jersey Eisteddfod winning trophies and solo competitions with their bright sound and quirky repertoire. |
As a choir of 30 with an average age of 10, The Musical Originals Singers Training Choir competed at ‘Young Prague 2010’ singing ‘The Smiling Eyes’ by Jenny Olivia Johnson and ‘Panta Rhei’ by Jim Papoulis. Challenging pieces for such young singers. They were by some distance the youngest group in the youth section (up to age 18) and won a silver award plus an award for the most interesting and demanding programme. This experience gave the children a real taste for the challenge of musical competition and they too are competing in Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in July 2011.
Musical Originals has this year for the first time commissioned a new work, from Raymond Yiu (born 1973), who was shortlisted for the Chamber section of 2010 British Composer Awards presented by BASCA in association with BBC Radio 3.
